Popular Food Street in V V Puram to get Rs 6 crore makeover; works launched

BENGALURU: The popular Food Street (Tindi Beedi) in V V Puram is all set to get a major makeover. The ground-breaking ceremony for the works was conducted on Tuesday by Chickpet MLA Uday Garudachar.

According to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Special Commissioner (Finance), Jayaram Raipura, Food Street will be redeveloped with focus on amenities for citizens, benches and parking facilities. However, the stretch of road will will be closed for vehicle movement after 6 pm so that people can move freely.

Chickpet MLA Uday Garudachar performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the remodelling work on Tuesday.

Under the Rs 6 crore project, open spaces will be created and cultural activities will also be promoted. The BBMP has already held talks with the shopkeepers and vendors in the area and once completed, it will become a ‘model street’, Raipura said.

The remodelled street will have more open spaces.

Though the work was launched on Tuesday, the BBMP has decided not to disturb the ‘Avarekai Mela’ which begins in December-end and concludes during Sankranti. Palike Special Commissioner Jayaram Raipura, zonal Joint Commissioner Jagadish Nayak, Chief Engineer Mohan Krishna and other officials were present at the ground-breaking ceremony.
