Policemen accompanying the howdah elephant will be seen in traditional costumes this Dasara.

MYSURU: The Dasara procession, which has a history of 414 years, will some some old traditions revived this year. The procession is taken out on Vijayadashami and marks the conclusion of the 10-day festivities.

A speciality this year will be policemen accompanying the howdah elephant will be seen dressed in traditional attire like seen in the pages of history books. The costumes are already ready for the Green Lancers, Red Lancers, Palace Jillo team, etc.

Different teams will have different dress codes.

“Those carrying the various insignias, the Green Lancers, Red Lancers, Grill Meese and the musical troupes will walk along with the ambari elephant while following their respective dress codes”, explained a palace official. The Nadaswara team will also have a dress code, he added.

Meanwhile, entry of tourists to the famed Mysuru palace will be restricted on certain days during the Dasara celebrations in view of the various rituals. On October 9, entry will be restricted between 10 am and 1 pm when the golden throne will be assembled.

Likewise, on October 15 and 23, entry will be restricted between 10 am and 2 pm in view of the private durbar and Ayudha puja, respectively. On Vijayadashami day on October 24, tourist entry will be barred throughout the day. Again, on November 8, visitors will not be allowed entry between 10 am and 1 pm when the golden throne will be dismantled and stowed away.
