Police shoot at two dacoits trying to flee while being taken to court

KOLAR: The Masti police fired at two men accused of dacoity when they allegedly attacked a police party and tried to flee when being produced before a court. The accused are Suheb who hails from Hassan and Shamsul from Assam.

Police sub-inspector Hemanth and staff Nikhil and Vishwanath also sustained injuries in the incident. The shootout occurred in a eucalyptus grove near Sangondahalli in Kolar taluk.

On October 21, a gang of six dacoits had struck at the lone house of priest Doddanarasaiah Shastry in Masti police limits and assaulted the priest, his wife and two others. The dacoits had taken away cash and valuables from the house after threatening the residents with swords and other sharp weapons.

The police had arrested Suheb and Shamshul along with the others in connection with the dacoity. The same gang had also stolen Rs 15 lakh worth of gutka from three shops in Yettakodi village in Malur taluk. Separate cases had been registered at Malur and Masti police stations.
