YADAGIR: Even before the investigation into the theft case of 6,077 quintals of ration rice under the ‘Anna Bhagya scheme, worth Rs 2 crore could be completed, another similar case of illegal transportation of rice was reported in Raichur’s Surpur town.
The free ration rice was being transported in a goods vehicle illegally from Surpur in Yadgir district to Lingasugur in Raichur district. The Surpur police intercepted the vehicle on the basis of confirmed information and seized ration more than two tons of rice worth Rs 69,000.
Ration rice packed in 45 plastic bags weighing 50 kg each was found in the goods vehicle. When the police intercepted the driver, he ran away. A case has been registered a case in this regard and police are on the lookout for the absconding driver.
