Police seize fake products of reputed brands worth Rs 95 lakh, arrest three

BENGALURU: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested three people and seized fake goods of popular brands of household products belonging to leading FMCG companies, worth Rs 95 lakh. The fake products were being produced on the outskirts of the city and stored in a godown in Wilson Garden.

Acting on compaints from representatives of FMCG majors Hindustan Unilever Ltd and Reckitt and Benckiser, the police first raided the godown at Wilson Garden where they found fake products of Surf Excel, Vim Liquid, Lifebuoy handwash, Rin, Wheel detergent powder, Red Label tea power, Lizol floor cleaner, Harpic toilet cleaner among others.

On coming to know that these products were being produced elsehwere and brought to the godown, the police raided the production unit and godown at Ramapura and Bidarahalli in Avalahalli. The police also arrested Shiva Patil (40), Daulat Singh (32) and Shubham (21).

Shiva Patil and Daulat Singh hail from north India and while the former oversaw production of the fake productions, the latter looked after their distribution. It is suspected that they have been peddling the fake products for the last five years.

The duo are said to be aides of Mahesh Gandhi, who was caught some time ago for making fake products. They had learnt the trade of producing fake products from him and launched their own unit. The Wilson Garden police have registered a case.
