MANGALURU: Quick action by a police officer resulted in preventing escalation of tensions after a green flag was found installed at a Ganapathi Katte at Puchchemogeru on Moodabidre taluk recently. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.

During an Eid Milad procession, a green flag was planted on the Ganapathi Katte at Puchchemogeru by some miscreants. However, the panchayat development officer (PDO) Shekhar did nothing to get it removed from the spot.

Moodabidre inspector Sandesh PG, who reached the spot on September 30 after getting information, took the PDO to task and questioned whether permission had been sought to install the flag at that place. The inspector also told the PDO that he should have immediately lodged a complaint with the police and reminded him of his responsibilities.

Later, the police personnel removed the flag from the Hindu sacred site, thus preventing any flareup of tensions.
