KALABURAGI: Two close associates of the kingpin of the KEA recruitment exam scam, R D Patil, have been arrested by the Kalaburagi University police from near Sholapur in Maharashtra.

The two aides had reportedly dropped off Patil to Sholapur from where he escaped alone. One of the arrested is Ravi Ukuli and the police are on the lookout for R D Patil in Maharashtra.

Footage from CCTV shows R D Patil escaping by scaling the fence of the apartment building.

The kingpin had sent the police on a wild goose chase to Uttar Pradesh while he was hiding in Kalaburagi itself all the while. The police, who were tracking his mobile phone tower location, traced it to UP. Patil had sent his phone through an associate to that state.

Meanwhile, the police got information that Patil was in Kalaburagi itself. But by the time they could crosscheck the information and act, he had escaped from an apartment right next to the KEA exam centre where he was hiding.
