Police fire at two murder accused on Vijayapura outskirts

The accused were involved in a murder case which took place on Monday.

VIJAYAPURA: The Vijayapura police arrested two people accused in a murder case after firing at them while they were fleeing, near Ittangihal village on Tuesday morning. Four others involved in the murder case, however, managed to escape.

On Monday, the gang had brutally murdered Susheel Kale, an old associate of Bhagappa Harijan, a notorious gangster who was murdered in February last year. On receiving information that two of the accused were near Ittangihal, a police team went there to apprehend them, Police Superintendent Lakshman Nimbaragi said.

However, the accused Akash Kallavvagol and Sudeep a.k.a Subhash Bagali tried to attack the police with a county-made pistol and escape on a motorcycle. In self defence, Gandhi Chowk Circle Police Inspector Pradeep Talakeri opened fire at them after firing a warning shot, the SP said.

The SP visited the injured policeman in hospital.

Akash and Subhash were injured in the leg and were admitted to a hospital. Police said Akash has seven prior cases registered against him. The police are now on the lookout for the four other accused who managed to flee.

The SP, who visited the scene of the shootout, said a country pistol belonging to the accused and three shell casing of the bullets fired by the police inspector, along with a motorcycle were found at the spot.
