BENGALURU: City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar went around the city on Friday night, checking pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants checking for violation of rules. During this, several violations were found and legal action has been initiated.

The police commissioner, along with the CCB police and DCPs of all divisions, raided pubs, clubs, dance bars and restaurants across Bengaluru, including the prestigious Lalit Ashok Hotel and Page 3 pub near Anand Rao Circle, Gandhinagar and other areas to check for underage drinking, remaining open beyond business hours and other illegal activities.
A citywide enforcement drive across Bengaluru checked 1,530 establishments in a single operation, covering 522 hotels, 893 pubs and bars, 62 dance bars and 53 recreation clubs.
The drive resulted in nearly 300 petty cases and over 350 COTPA cases, along with action under the Excise Act and Karnataka Police Act, besides noise-pollution cases and other FIRs.
We will ensure consistent enforcement across the city so that establishments operate responsibly and within the law. These drives will continue, with a clear focus on public safety, compliance with licensing conditions, neighbourhood nuisance and other violations affecting citizens.

In Koramangala, the staff of some pubs, bars, and restaurants sent customers out when the police arrived. Couples panicked on seeing the police and attempt to escape from pubs. However, the police questioned them and sent them out one by one.

The operation across the entire city was conducted by as many as 800 police personnel. Speaking about the drive on Saturday morning, Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said, “There was information regarding violation of rules in dance bars. We have also checked in bars and restaurants. We had formed 60 teams including 11 DCPs, four traffic DCPs, CCB and more than 800 personnel had participated in the inspection”.

“At some places there were rule violations and cases have been registered. Traffic police set up checkpoints and vehicles without number plates have been seized. If there is violation of the law, we will take action. Majorly there has been music rule violation, and sound pollution. Earlier we had done this zone-wise. Now, we are doing it at the same time to control crime. We will conduct such raids in coming days as well”, the police chief added.
