CHIKKAMAGALUR: A team of the Bengaluru police, which was scouring the Charmadi Ghat here for the body of a youth who was murdered nine months ago, has suspended the search as the accused had to be produced before a court on Friday.
The team had been conducting the search for the last three days along Charmadi Ghat, Ujire, Belthangady and Banakal and had taken two of the accused there to identify the location where the body was dumped. The team went into dense forest areas where there is hardly any sunlight or mobile network and worked without food and water. However, they could not trace the body so far.
Local experts were also assisting the police team in the search, but since the body was dumped nine months ago, there is every possibility that it may have decomposed or eaten by animals, they said.
Sharath, a resident of Konanakunte in Bengaluru, had taken money from several people in Chikkaballapur and Yelahanka saying that he would get them cars at subsidised rates and duped them. A case had been registered against him for cheating.
Sharat was later kidnapped and murdered and his body dumped in Charmadi Ghats. A missing person’s case had been registered at the Cubbon Park police station in Bengaluru. The police have arrested five people in connection with the murder.
