The multi-level parking facility at Freedom Park is almost ready.

BENGALURU: Finding parking space is a big headache in Bengaluru, especially in areas like Majestic. To ease this to a certain extent, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike is now thinking of introducing paid parking and has identified 12 locations.

In a city of about 10 million vehicles, mostly two-wheelers, traffic jams are all too common while finding parking space can be a task. The BBMP hopes to make parking spaces available by reintroducing the pay-and-park scheme at select locations.

Due to heavy movement of vehicles, parking is a problem in Majestic area. The BBMP has completed construction of a multi-level parking facility at Freedom Park at a cost of Rs 79.81 crore with separate entry and exit points, which will open soon.

Apart from this, the BBMP plans to introduce pay-and-park at 12 locations in Gandhinagar, for which tenders will be called soon. These locations include Gandhinagar 1, 5, 6 Cross roads, Gandhinagar 3rd Cross (big), Gandhinagar 4th Cross (small), Gandhinagar 2nd an 4th Main roads, the road parallel to Yadav Hostel, Sapna Book House road, W H Hanumanthappa Road, Y Ramachandra Road and Seshadri Road (Freedom Park entrance).

While the BBMP has not yet finalised on the parking fee, the new pay-and-park scheme is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the central parts of the city.
