BENGALURU: Following a Public TVground report on the suspicious and recurring accidents on the Bengaluru-Chennai highway, the police have now enhanced patrolling and surveillance on the highway.
Accidents have been occurring repeatedly at a particular spot on the Bengaluru-Chennai Express Highway over the past few days. After the report was aired, a car owner got suspicious and checked his car’s dashcam footage.
The footage revealed that large stones were being deliberately placed on the road to cause accidents. The footage also showed two suspicious individuals waiting with iron rods near the road, leading to even more suspicions that they were waiting for accidents to happen so that they can steal gold ornaments, cash, and mobile phones from the occupants of the cars.
On May 25, two people had died, and several cars had been involved in accidents at the same spot. After the report, the police department and NHAI officials took notice and increased security measures on the highway.
Lawyer Hussain had filed a complaint with the DG&IGP MA Saleem, along with evidence, and also complained to the National Highways Authority of India. The police department took the incident seriously and ordered an investigation under the leadership of the Kolar SP.
Officials inspected the site and increased security measures, including deploying five ambulances, additional highway patrol vehicles and police officers. CCTV cameras have been installed at every kilometer to keep an eye on suspicious individuals.
Lawyer Hussain said, “The police have conducted an inspection on the highway and increased the patrolling. After the complaint, the number of patrolling vehicles was increased to ten to keep a close watch on the activities and high-resolution CCTVs were installed every kilometres. Ambulance facilities have also increased”.
