Party workers clash at polling booths in several districts

MANDYA, CHITRADURGA, DAVANAGERE, YADGIR: Members of the JD(S) workers and Raitha Sangha engaged in a scuffle in the presence of the party’s Melukote candidate over the issue of aged persons casting their votes at Narayanapura village in Pandavapura taluk.

Some JD(S) workers tried to confiscate a mobile phone from a youth, who is a member of the Raitha Sangha, leading to an argument between the two groups for some time.The situation came to normal after the police and security intervened.

Women dumped BJP gifted sarees

Some booth agents at booth no. 135 in Chinakurali village got into an argument with election staff over confusion in the voters’ names in the list. Meanwhile, women from Ganjikere and Akki Hebbal villages dumped sarees and chicken gifted by the BJP. It is said that the party workers distributed sarees and chicken late on Tuesday night to lure women votes.

In Honnali taluk, BJP and Congress workers engaged in a scuffle over allegations that BJP candidate M P Renukacharya violated the Model Code of Conduct at Eraganal village. Supporters of both parties even gheraoed Renukacharya’s car during the incident.

In another incident, some Congress workers assaulted a police constable after he warned them to maintain distance from the polling booth. The incident took place at H Basavanahalli in Madhugiri taluk. The workers also beat up  a YouTuber who was recording the incident which occurred under Midigeshi police limits.

In Yadgir district, BJP and JD(S) party workers clashed at Keshwar village over campaigning within the 100-metre radius of the booth. Some of them sustained minor injuries in the incident. The situation came under control with the interference of paramilitary force. The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of the Gurmitkal police.
