Overhead power lines cause fire in house, articles worth Rs 10 lakh destroyed

Overhanging power lines are suspected to have caused the fire; (right) neighbours doused the fire with water from a public tap.

BELAGAVI: A fire broke out at a house, suspectedly due to short circuit, destroying household articles worth about Rs 10 lakh at Lakkebail village in Khanapur taluk on Friday. Luckily, no one was injured.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by power lines right above the house due to strong winds. The house belongs to one Chandrakanth Chalavadi. As soon as the fire broke out, the family members ran out.

Locals have alleged negligence by Hescom for the fire. The Khanapur police have registered a case.
