Over 40 schools in Bengaluru get bomb threat emails, CM says new law to curb false news

BENGALURU: Over 40 private schools in Bengaluru received bomb threat messages via email on Friday morning, officials said. Schools in several areas, including Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Kengeri got the threatening anonymous email messages. Following this, the police swung into action and deployed teams outside the targeted schools.

Reacting to this in Mysuru, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “I have asked the police to check if it’s a hoax. We are bringing a new law to curb false news and provocative statements”.

The principal of St Germain’s Academy, Monica Anthony, said, “We received the email around 7.30 am and immediately informed the police. The police arrived and searched the campus, but found nothing. The school children have exams going on, but luckily nothing was found. It seems someone who is psychologically affected is doing this”.

At the Wisdom International School in Chamarajpet, which has about 800 students, the children were shifted to the basement of an adjacent building. The school authorities then informed the parents to collect their wards immedately following which the students were picked up by their parents.

Meanwhile, in the national capital Delhi too, about 20 schools received bomb threats on Friday following which the Fire Department and Delhi Police personnel were deployed outside them.
