GADAG: More than 25 children fell ill after consuming wild jatropha seeds at Brahmanandapur Tanda in Gadag taluk on Wednesday evening. The seed is used for biofuel and also used as medicine for many diseases.

There is a wild jatropha tree next to the village school. During playtime, the children plucked fruits from the tree, broke them open, and ate the seeds inside. Since it is poisonous, the children developed vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and dizziness.They were immediately admitted to Gadag GIMS Hospital and are being treated.

As all of them are small children from 2nd, 3rd, and 4th standards, parents are anxious. Around 18 girls and nine boys have had health complications and are being treated at Gadag GIMS Hospital. Gadag DDPI R S Buradi visited the spot and conducted an inspection. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Gadag Rural police station.
