BENGALURU: Even though SIR notice was given in Bengaluru urban district limits, about two lakh people have not appeared for inquiry. The authorities are now going ahead to give a second notice and if there is no response, the voters’ names may be deleted from the electoral rolls.
The SIR process is going on in Karnataka state and the draft voters’ list has been released. While notices were issued to unmapped people, there are many cases of people not appearing for inquiry. In Bengaluru Urban district 9.45 lakh voters have been identified as unmapped and 5.67 lakh voters have been given notice. In this 2.33 lakh voters have not given any reply so election officials are going ahead to give second time notice to them.
An additional 468 AROs have been appointed to inquire voters who are given notice. The second notice will be last and if there is no response, the name will be deleted from voters list. If there are NRIs, their inquiry will happen virtually. September 23 is last date and if not voters do not appear for inquiry, there is a possibility that their name will be deleted from voters list.
So far, SIR notice are being issued to 4,47,39,070 voters across the state and 50 per cent of the inquiry process is completed. Of this, notices have been given to 34,96,549 people and 8,85,396 people are remaining. So far, 17,63,187 people have participated in document submission inquiry while that of 17,33,362 people is pending. Across the state, 77.79 per cent of the process of issuing notices has been completed.
