VIJAYAPURA: In a case of gross negligence, several women who had recently delivered babies through C-section at the government maternity hospital here are being made to suffer torturous pain after the stitches came off. Some have now even developed infection.
Shockingly, even after 3-4 days, doctors are yet to attend to them. Injections and other medicines for nursing mothers were also not administered.
As soon as a report regarding this medical negligence was aired on Public TV, District Surgeon S Lakkannavar got into the act and sent some doctors to check on the women and treat them. Speaking to Public TV, Dr Lakkannavar said the maternity hospital has only one operation theatre due to which the problem had arisen.
“It is true that we had run out of injections to be administered to women who had undergone C-section”, he admitted. “The women had less haemoglobin count and hence the problem. Both sides are at fault”, he argued.
Over the last 10-15 days, about 40 women have delivered through caesarian section at the hospital. The affected women have now demanded action against the staffers for negligence.
