UDUPI: Hindu activists staged a protest at Shankaranarayana in Kundapur taluk on Wednesday after some Hindu students were made to perform namaz during azan during the inauguration of a zonal level sports meet at a school in the town.

Hindu Jagaran Vedike activists staged a protest at Shankaranarayana on Wednesday.

The Mother Teresa Memorial School at Shankaranarayana had hosted a zonal-level sports meet recently. During the opening ceremony, some students were performing a dance during which they can be seen offering namaz while the azan plays out.

Alleging that Hindu children were being forced to offer namaz, the Hindu Jagaran Vedike staged a protest by blocking the road at Shankaranarayana Junction on Wednesday. They also took out a procession.

The activists also took out a procession earlier.

The block education officer, who met the protesters and received their memorandum, said all aspects will be looked into. “I have brought the issue to the notice of the higher-ups. We will visit the school and conduct a detailed inquiry and we will take action as per rules”, he added.
