Now, KPTCL employees hold snap protest to demand pay revision

KPTCL employees held a snap strike on Friday afternoon in front of Cauvery Bhavan demanding revision of pay scale.

BENGALURU: Just days after Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced a 17 per cent hike in salaries for government employees, employees of the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL) staged a snap strike in front of Cauvery Bhavan here on Friday afternoon, stopping their work, to demand for pay scale revision. The revision has been due since last April, they claimed.

Balaram, general secretary of the Union handed over a memorandum to the director of KPTCL Mahesh Karjagi.

Employees warned the power corporation that if their demands are not fulfilled, the union members will go on strike from April April 13 demand implementation of a revised pay scale.

The KPTC employees union staged protest, led by Balaram, general secretary of the Union, demanding revision of pay scale. 

Balaram, general secretary of KPTC employees’ union, said, “Our salaries must be increased by 22 per cent. Pay revision of one lakh employees, including pensioners, was pending from April 2022. The proposal was approved at the KPTCL directors’ level, but was kept pending at the government level. Our fight will continue till we get justice. Everyone is getting a salary hike as desired. We have written to the director and requested him to implement the pay revision at the earliest”.

Director Mahesh Karjagi said the he will forward the demand to the authorities and hoped it will be approved.

KPTCL managing director Mahesh Karjagi, after receiving the memorandum, said the corporation will protect the interests of the employees. “The demand is  fair and the pay revision was supposed to be done last year. The minister and the authorities concerned have responded positively. The process is in the final stages and I hope it will be approved by the government”, he said.
