BENGALURU: Just days after Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced a 17 per cent hike in salaries for government employees, employees of the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL) staged a snap strike in front of Cauvery Bhavan here on Friday afternoon, stopping their work, to demand for pay scale revision. The revision has been due since last April, they claimed.
Employees warned the power corporation that if their demands are not fulfilled, the union members will go on strike from April April 13 demand implementation of a revised pay scale.
Balaram, general secretary of KPTC employees’ union, said, “Our salaries must be increased by 22 per cent. Pay revision of one lakh employees, including pensioners, was pending from April 2022. The proposal was approved at the KPTCL directors’ level, but was kept pending at the government level. Our fight will continue till we get justice. Everyone is getting a salary hike as desired. We have written to the director and requested him to implement the pay revision at the earliest”.
KPTCL managing director Mahesh Karjagi, after receiving the memorandum, said the corporation will protect the interests of the employees. “The demand is fair and the pay revision was supposed to be done last year. The minister and the authorities concerned have responded positively. The process is in the final stages and I hope it will be approved by the government”, he said.
