CHITRADURGA: In more trouble for the Murugha Mutt seer Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru, a case has been registered against him under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. One of the girls, who had alleged sexual assault, belongs to a Scheduled Caste.
After obtaining the court’s nod, the police have registered a case under various sections of the Act. The police have tightened security at the Mutt after the seer went incommunicado for some time. The seer has already charged under the POCSO Act for alleged sexual assault.
Meanwhile, the two victims are expected to record their statements before a local court today.
The seer went on a morning walk in the mutt premises on Tuesday. The heads of several other mutts, including the Madara Chennaiah mutt and the Ganiga mutt, met Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru at Murugha Mutt on Tuesday. BJP MLA G H Thippareddy and party leader Lingamurthy also called on the seer.
In Belagavi, ADGP Alok Kumar said the legal process will be followed in the case. The ADGP chaired a meeting of senior police officers of the district to review security arrangements for the Ganesha Chathurti celebrations.
