UDUPI: Noted Yakshagana artist Bhagawat Subramanya Dhareshwar died at the age of 67 in Bengaluru early on Thursday. He was an exponent of the Badaguthittu style of Yakshagana and performed for 47 years.
Subramanya Dhareshwar, with his baritone voice, was known to experiment. He had served as a Bhagawat at the Kota Amrutheshwari, Hiremahalingeshwara, Sirsi, Perdoor Melas. He had started out as an electrician at the melas.
Subramanya Dhareshwar was born in Gokarna, Uttara Kannada district. Of late, he had been staying with his son in Bengaluru where he breathed his last.
