Nine BMTC official suspended for allowing drunk electric bus drivers to work by taking bribes

BENGALURU: Nine BMTC staffers have been suspended for taking bribes from drunk electric bus drivers and allowing them to work.

The suspended officials are Depot Manager MG Krishna, Traffic Inspector Srinivas D, Arun Kumar E S (Assistant Accountant), Junior Assistant Pratibha K S, Karnataka State Transport Havildar Manjunath M, Constable Manjunath S G, Chetan Kumar, Puneeth Kumar and Lakshmi K.

A video of BMTC drivers driving under the influence had gone viral, revealing that officials were taking bribes and allowing drunk drivers to work. As a result, nine officials, including the Depot Manager, have been suspended.

Drivers at Depot-35 (Kannahalli) were coming drunk to drive electric buses. Officials had taken thousands of rupees from over 150 drivers and allowed them to drive, leading to an increase in accidents. Strict action has been taken in this regard.
