BENGALURU: After reports of harassment of people at night by police personnel on night patrol, the South-East division personnel have started wearing bodycams compulsorily to not give scope for such accusations.
In December 2022, a few cases were reported from citizens wherein policemen on night patrol were accused of extorting money from them and also harassing them. To put a stop to all the allegations from citizens, the police department had planned to make it mandatory for policemen on night patrol to wear bodycams.
The bodycams have been given to all the night beat policemen of South-East Division as part of an experiment to check the veracity of allegations, if made. Deputy Commissioner of Police C K Baba has warned that strict action will be taken against those personnel who do not wear bodycams for any reason while on duty.
