BENGALURU: The city police have cracked the murder case of a 32-year-old Nigerian woman, Lovit with the arrest of her boyfriend Samson Oppongo, a Nigerian national.
Oppongo had killed Lovit using the gear lever knob in a moving car. He had taken Lovit from BTM Layout to Chikkajala, where he murdered her inside the car, suffocated her to death with a shawl and dumped her body.
According to the police, Oppongo had come to Bengaluru to pay off a debt. The accused used to peddle drugs and pay his suppliers money every month. The murdered woman was a business link between the two. Every month, Oppongo used to give Rs 20,000 to the Nigerian national through Lovit. She was acting as an agent in their drug peddling business and would also get a commission.
Lovit always pressured Oppongo for money and he allegedly killed Lovit to avoid paying her commission. The police investigation revealed that both Oppongo and Lovit were in Bengaluru on business visas, but their visas had expired, and they were overstaying illegally. Lovit was married to a Manipuri man and had a child, and both were living in Electronics City.
The police also found that Lovit was involved in drug peddling. The police arrested Oppongo based on CCTV footage and call records. Further investigation in under way.
