BENGALURU: In huge relief for motorists, the new loop of the Hebbal flyover, connecting traffic coming from KR Pura and Nagawara side to Mehkri Circle, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar on Monday.
The flyover loop was decked up with flowers ahead of the inauguration and a surprise guest at the inauguration was actor-politicial Ramya. Deputy CM Shivakumar also took a ride along the flyover loop on his favourite Yezdi Roadking motorcycle wearing a brand new helmet.
When the Deputy CM had inspected progress work on the flyover about 80 days ago, he was trolled for riding a two-wheeler on which there were huge pending fines for traffic violations. In a post on X, DK Shivakumar wrote, “Breezing through traffic at Hebbal Junction! The new Hebbal Flyover Loop, inaugurated today, will be a game changer for people commuting via Hebbal Junction. A 700 metre ramp built at a cost of 80Cr in just 7 months, will reduce traffic congestion by 30% and improve commute quality.”

Shivakumar also shared that riding his old motorcycle brought back memories of his college days. “Also relived my college days by riding my old Yezdi RoadKing. Dear Bengalureans, we’re committed with deep passion, and we will deliver”, the post read.
Speaking after the inauguration, Shivakumar said, “This loop has been built to ease traffic. Though planned earlier, it hadn’t materialised. After I took charge of Bengaluru development, we released funds. A total of Rs 300 crore has been allotted and Rs 180 crore has been spent on construction of this loop. Another section will be added by November to make it eight-lane and another loop will be added by September.

Shivakumar also said a 1-km tunnel will be built form Esteem Mall for emergency situations. “It will help those coming from the airport and work will start soon after tenders are called”. The new loop is expected to reduce traffic on the flyover by 30 per cent.
The work on the loop was taken up in 2022 as per the Bangalore Development Authority’s (BDA) plan and was supposed to be completed in 2024. However, the work has been delayed for various reasons. The 700-metre loop has been constructed on 26 pillars and will reduce congestion on the flyover.
