BENGALURU: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo-motu cognizance of a reported rape incident involving a PG owner and a female student.
The NCW chairperson has written to the Karnataka Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP), asking the police to conduct a thorough and unbiased investigation into the matter and take necessary action.
The incident occurred last Friday, and the accused PG owner, Ashraf, was arrested by the police in Soladevanahalli on August 3. The victim, a Kerala-native student, studyng in a private college in Hesarghatta, had joined the PG and was allegedly raped by Ashraf within a week of her stay.
The NCW has also instructed the authorities to provide necessary assistance to the victim. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
