Muttiah Muralitharan’s firm to invest Rs 900 cr in beverage can manufacturing unit near Dharwad

DHARWAD: Sri Lankan spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan, who has turned entrepreneur after his cricketing career, will be investing Rs 900 crore in a beverage can manufacturing and refilling unit near Dharward.

Ceylon Beverages Can Company, of which Muttiah Muralitharan is a promoter, has proposed to set up an aluminium beverages can manufacturing unit at the Mummigatti industrial area near Dharward with a total investment of Rs 900 crore. In the first phase, the company will invest Rs 256.30 crore.

Muttiah Muralitharan inspected the land for setting up the plant on August 5 along with officials of the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). He has visited the place a couple of times earlier too.

The firm has sought a total of 32-36 acres of land in the FMCG cluster for setting up the plant and in the first phase, 15 acres is being provided. Approval for setting up the plant has been granted at the govenment level and construction is expected to start in 2-3 years.

With an average of over six wickets per Test match, Muralitharan is regarded as the most successful and one of the greatest bowlers in cricket history. He has bagged 800 wickets in test cricket and 534 in ODIs. He was also the bowling coach and mentor of the IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad and is a member of the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
