MANDYA: In an alleged case of love jihad, a Muslim youth eloped with a minor Hindu girl in KR Pet. Both have since been brought back by the police following a complaint from the girl’s parents.
Syed Tabrez (19) of the town eloped with the 15-year-old girl after convincing her that he was in love with her. After her parents lodged a complaint, the police traced Tabrez and brought him back and registered a case under the POCSO Act against him.
Following this, members of Hindu groups staged a protest in front of the police station on Sunday evening alleging that it was a case of love jihad. They claimed that Hindu girls were being deliberately targeted and demanded that the case be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
