Moral policing: Same-community couple targeted in Uppinangady

MANGALURU: In an alleged act of moral policing, a group of Muslim men attacked a couple belonging to the same community when they were hanging out together at a market near Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada. The incident occurred a week ago and a video of the attack has now gone viral.

In the video, a group of Muslim men can be seen questioning the couple after blocking their way in a bazaar near Uppinangady and using abusive words at them. Later, the youth was attacked by the group.

In the video, the men can be seen slapping and threatening the youth and forcing the duo to give their ID cards or Aadhaar card. The duo can be are requesting the men not to shoot videos and not to post it any group. A man in a red shirt keeps attacking the youth though he remained quiet.

The mother of the girl has lodged a complaint at the Uppinangady police station and a case has been registered under the POCSO Act. The accused has since escaped and the police are on the lookout for them.
