Minister’s ‘supporter’ assaults Kalaburagi health inspector, staff stage protest

KALABURAGI: A supporter of RDPR Minister Priyank Kharge assaulted a health inspector of the Kalaburagi Mahanagara Palike in the presence of the assistant commissioner on Wednesday evening.

The accused Avinash Bhaskar is said to be a supporter of Minister Priyank Kharge.

Avinash Bhaskar, an associate of the minister who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, and a few others, barged into the corporation office and assaulted health inspector Dhanashetty over the issue of granting a trade licence. The entire incident was captured on CCTV camera.

It is said that Avinash Bhaskar was involved in assault cases earlier too. A case has been registered against him at the Brahmapura police station.

The Kalaburagi Mahanagara Palike staff staged a protest on Thursday morning.

Following the incident, the Palike staff staged a protest in front of the civic body office on Thursday demanding protection and action against the accused.

“Avinash and Raju barged into the office and assaulted a staffer. The police have assured us of action. Such incidents have occurred earlier too and it is difficult to work under such circumstances”, said a senior Palike official.
