BENGALURU: Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda paid a surprise visit early on Saturday morning to inspect garbage disposal at Hennur, Agara Lake, Ramamurthy Nagar and Kasturi Nagar under Bengaluru East Corporation.
The minister inspected the condition of roads and garbage disposal and got a status check from officials about road repair and pothole-filling work on the spot. The minister also checked if garbage disposal happening properly and door to door garbage collection. He warned officials that he will not remain quiet if roads are not fixed.
Minister Krishna Byre Gowda issued a stern warning to officials to take immediate action if garbage heaps are seen and said immediate action if lapses are found. He also expressed his anger over the work attitude of officials and directed them to work in such a way that the public does not face trouble.
Better civic services start with better understanding of the ground reality.

On the demand for regularisaton of pourakarmikas, the minister said, “They don’t come to work, why should they be made permanent? Only if they come to work, they will be made permanent. About 30 per cent of the people don’t come to work. If pourakarmikas don’t come to work in a day, how will the city be clean? First learn to work. I am talking after checking records. The city is stinking and we have to get scolded by people while you are worried only about permanent jobs”.
He also took the Executive Engineer to task saying, “Keep your office a little clean. What is problem for you to keep clean? If you see the office, it is disgusting. Because you stay like this, people also do like that. It starts from us. Seeing us, people also become like that. Does it look like the Executive Engineer office?”
