Midnight Independence Day celebrations in parts of Karnataka

BENGALURU: The 77th Independence Day was celebrated with much fervour across the state on Tuesday.

In Bagalkot and Gadag, the Tricolour was hoisted at midnight to mark the celebration. Filmmaker Dr Rajendra Singh Babu hoisted the national flag at Sector 34, Navanagar, Bagalkot at an event organised by film producer and founder of Vaishnodevi Creations, Ghanshyan Bhandage. The flag hoisting was followed by the national anthem and bursting of fire crackers.

In Gadag district, the national flag was hoisted at midnight at Venkatrao Circle in Hole Alur of Ron taluk, Gajendragarh fort, at Bhimrao Circle in Mundargi by RSS workers.

In Belagavi, Davanagere, Ballari and Ramanagara, massive flags were hoisted to mark Independence Day. The country’s tallest flag was hoisted by Belagavi North Congress MLA Asif Sait at the Kote Kere. The flag post is 110 metres tall and the flag measures 60×90 feet.

The Tricolour was hoisted atop a tall flag pole in Vijayapura.

The Tricolour was unfurled on a 405 ft tall flag post at the Dr Puneeth Rajkumar district stadium on Vijayanagar. The flag was unfurled by Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan. In Davanagere, a flag measuring 76 metres long ws taken in procession through Jagalur town from Ambedkar Circle.

A group of youths in Ramanagara hoisted a 60-ft-long flag at a height of 600 feet atop the Handigundi Hills near Ramanagara early today morning. The group, led by Sachin, raises the height of the flag by 5 feet every year.

In Chamarajanagar, the Independence Day parade by the police included only Kannada commands by the parade commander. The move was hailed by citizens.

In Tumakuru, Independence Day was celebrated at Meena Masjid.

In Tumakuru, the national flag was hoisted atop the Meena Masjid in Goods Shed Colony with children singing the national anthem. At the Siddaganga Mutt, Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara hoisted the Tricolour.
