KARWAR: A mentally unstable man, who was bound with chains at the ankle and kept in a partly-constructed house on a farmland at Alur village in Dandeli taluk by the taluk administration, including the police and the health authorities.
Vinayak Vasanth Sonsheth, who claimed to have completed his ITI course, has been mentall unstable for the last few years and had been setting their sugarcane crops on fire, family members said. His father was working in the postal department and had died while still in service. Hence, Vinayak had got a job as a postman on compassionate grounds.
After getting information about about Vinayak being kept chained, members of the Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka chapter, along with the police and health officials, shifted him to the Dandeli government hospital. He is likely to be sent to a mental health care institution for further treatment.
