BENGALURU: Three members of the the gold medal-winning Indian women’s blind cricket team, including captain Varsha, Deepika and Gangavva, were given a warm welcome by the Samarthanam Trust and the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) upon their arrival at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) today.
Three of the team members are from Karnataka and captain Varsha hails from Tumakuru. The team members cut a cake and were presented shawls and garlands while a folk music troupe welcomed them.
The Indian women’s blind cricket team scripted history in the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games 2023 held in Birmingham, London, by defeating defeated Australia by nine wickets to clinch the gold. The team had won winning everyone’s hearts with their spectacular show at the World Games.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had congratulated the team on their spectacular performance. The team, along with the CABI members, were given a rousing reception when they arrived in Delhi on Monday.
Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Irani had felicitated the gold medal-winning Indian women’s blind cricket team for bringing laurels to the nation. The minister had felicitated the entire contingent on winning the gold medal for the country.
