MANGALURU: The police have been accused of third-degree torture on the seven people who were accused of being involved in putting up a banner of BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel and former chief minister D V Sadananda in Puttur and a garland of footwear on it.

The accused are BJP workers and it is said that the police tortured them and beat them badly on the back and waist, leaving them unable to even walk properly.

The seven accused released from the station.

Later, Independent candidate Arun Kumar Puttila helped in securing their release from the police station.

Recently, a banner of Sadananda Gowda and Nalin Kumar Kateel was found garlanded with footwear near the bus stand in Puttur, with the words ‘heartfelt condolences to lost BJP on its drubbing in the Assembly election’, and signed off by ‘painted Hindu workers’.
