Mandya PSI was suspended for refusing to lodge complaint of assault on Hindu youth

MANDYA: The police sub-inspector of Bellur in Nagamangala district has been suspended for refusing to lodge a complaint in a case of assault on a Hindu youth. Mandya SP N Yatish has issued a suspension order of Basavaraja Chincholi on the charge of dereliction of duty.

A clash broke out in Bellur between Hindu and Muslim youths over the issue of overtaking a car. Three days after the incident, Abhilash was assaulted by youths from the minor community. It was alleged that PSI Basavaraja Chincholi showed negligence in receiving a complaint from the Abhilash last Friday.

Hindu groups staged a protest in front of the Bellur police station on Tuesday.

Around 7 pm on Monday, a group of Muslim youths attacked Abhilash and vandalised the house of his uncles. Abhilash was seriously injured and admitted to hospital. Activists of Hindu groups and residents of Bellur had staged a protest demanding strict action against the attackers. Later, the police registered three complaints in connection with the incident.
