BELAGAVI: A man stabbed a woman for refusing a loan and then attempted suicide at Ghataprabha in Gokak taluk. The incident occurred a few days ago but came to light only now. The victim is Nayana Praveen Shetty (34) and the attacker is Mallikarjun Kumbar. Both are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.
About a year ago, Nayana’s husband Praveen had borrowed Rs 1 lakh as loan from Mallikarjun and the couple claim that they had fully repaid the loan. However, Mallikarjun approached Nayana again and asked if she needed another loan. She then told him that she would not borrow any loan from him as he charges high interest.
Angered by her response, Mallikarjun followed Nayana on Monday afternoon, manhandled her and attacked her with a knife, injuring her in the abdomen, face and arms. He then went home and attempted suicide by consuming poison. The Ghataprabha police have since registered a case.
