Man sleeping in petrol bunk run over by tipper, dies

The two men were sleeping in front of a goods vehicle when the tipper was being fuelled.

UDUPI, MANGALURU: A man who was sleeping in a petrol bunk was run over by a tipper early today morning. The deceased was identified as Shivaraj (38), hailing from Korlikoppa in in Sagar taluk of Shivamogga.

The tipper ran over the two men while exiting the petrol bunk.

Two men, Shivaraj and Mahendra, were sleeping near a goods vehicle at the Someshwara petrol pump near Hebri. A tipper truck, which had come to refuel, ran over them while exiting the petrol station. While Shivaraj died on the spot, Mahendra sustained some injuries.

The motorcycle rider hit the road median and died later in hospital.

In another incident, a youth who was riding a motorcycle died after he hit the road median on the Belthangady-Ujire road on Thursday.

Dixit, a student of SDM College in Ujire and a resident of Dharmastala, had sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru, but did not respond to treatment.
