CHITRADURGA: The Chitradurga Rural police have cracked a case where a woman allegedly plotted the murder of her brother-in-law as he was an obstacle to her illicit relationship. The police have arrested four people so far, including the woman, and are on the lookout for another accused.

Shivamurthy, a resident of Chowluru village in Challakere taluk, was working as a lab technician at a health centre in Pavagada. On his holidays, he used to work as a cab driver.

On June 26, on the pretext of hiring his cab, the culprits called Shivamurthy (49) to Channagiri in Davanagere district. There, they slit his throat and killed him. Later, they brought the body to near Ingaladal village in Chitradurga taluk and set the car on fire.

On July 1, Shivamurthy’s charred body was found near Ingaldal. A team led by Chitradurga Rural Police Station CPI Balachandra Naik investigated the case and cracked the premeditated murder committed by five accused, Chitradurga SP Ranjit Kumar Bandaru said.

The investigation revealed that Sumathi was in an illicit relationship with Noor Ahmed, and Shivamurthy was coming in the way of the relationship. To eliminate this obstacle, they conspired and killed Shivamurthy, the SP said.

Police have arrested four of the accused including Sumati, the wife of Shivamurthy’s brother; her boyfriend Noor Ahmed; and Akshay and Jhankar. A search for one more accused is under way. A case has been registered at Chitradurga Rural police station.
