CHIKKABALLAPUR: A man burnt his girlfriend alive in a car and later committed suicide by coming under a moving train, near Jinke Bachahalli in Doddaballapur taluk on Monday. The deceased were identified as Sujatha a.k.a Sarojamma (25) of Devanahalli, who worked as a college lecturer, and Ramanjinappa of Marasandra.

Ramanjinappa had divorced his wife four months ago and was in a relationship with Sujatha. He was pressuring her to leave her husband and when she did not agree, he allegedly killed her by dousing his car with petrol and setting it on fire even as she was inside the vehicle on April 2.

Ramanjinappa then fled the scene and later ended his life by coming under a moving train near Bidadi. The gutted car was traced to on Suresh of Marasandra and Ramanjinappa had borrowed the vehicle.

Chikkaballapur SP said, “We received information about a car burning and our officers rushed to the spot. After the Fire and Emergency Services personnel put out the fire, we found a burnt woman’s body inside the car. Since the vehicle was in a desolate place, we determined that it was a murder case”.

“He had borrowed a car belonging to Muniyappa’s son of Marasandra, and set it on fire with the woman inside. Some clothes, his shirt and mobile phone were found at the spot. The car owner got a message about his car being burnt and around the same time, Ramanjinappa also came under a train near Bidadi. Ramanjinappa was staying alone and we are investigating the case further”, the officer said.
