Man from Maddur taluk tests positive for Covid, primary contacts test negative

MANDYA: Amid the rising cases of Covid-19 in neighbouring Kerala, a man from Maddur taluk has tested positive for coronavirus. He has been treated and is set to be discharged from hospital today.

The patient, who had no travel history, had developed fever and went to a hospital for a medical checkup. After tests, he was found to be positive for Covid. However, four of his primary contacts have tested negative for the virus.

District Health Officer Mohan said the primary contacts of the patient are in home isolation.

District Health Officer Mohan said, “The patient was admitted at MIMS Hospital for a surgical procedure and had no symptoms. During a routine test before surgery, he was detected to be positive for Covid-19, but it is not the JN.1 subvariant. He has no travel history and all the other four in the family have tested negative. The patient will be discharged today”.

Surveillance has been stepped up at the Bavali checkpost.

Meanwhile, surveillance has been enhanced in the border districts with Kerala. Health workers are conducting checks on those entering the state at the Bavali checkpost in HD Kote taluk. They are also distributing pamphlets to raise awareness and urging people to get tested if they have any symptoms.

Only a banner has been put up at the Moolehole checkpost in Bandipur tiger reserve.

At the Moolehole checkpost in Bandipur tiger reserve, the district administration has only put up a banner and is awaiting dirctives from the state heatlh department on testing of those entering the state. District Health Officer Chidambaram said they will go by the government directives.

Surveillance and testing has been increased at all the three checkposts in Kodagu district.

In Kodagu district, surveillence has been heightened at three checkposts — Karike, Makutta and Kutta and those entering the state are being monitored. Thermal screening is being carried out and if any traveller shows any symptoms, Covid tests will be conducted, according to district Health and Family Welfare Officer Satish. Health staff have already deployed at all the three checkposts, he said.
