BENGALURU:  A 36-year-old man, who met with an accident and was declared brain dead, gave a fresh lease of life to eight people by donating his vital organs on Monday.

Nagaraj was declared brain dead, and his family members gave their consent to donate his vital organs.

Nagaraj, a resident of B K village near Bagalur, was a painter and the sole breadwinner of the family. Three days ago, after finishing his work, he was travelling to Gauribidanur to see his wife when he met with an accident. He was admitted to a local hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Yeshwantpur. He had suffered severe head injury and the doctors declared him brain dead.

The hospital staff gave roses to Nagaraj’s family members.

The family was inspired by late actor Puneeth Rajkumar’s eye donation and they consented to donate Nagaraj’s organs. His vital organs were donated to eight people.

“On Thursday night, while he was travelling towards Gauribidanur, he fell from the bike. Villagers admitted him to the government hospital. The doctors tried hard to save him, but had he suffered from serious brain injuries. Today, he was declared brain dead, and the doctors informed us about organ donation. All the family members discussed this and decided to give our consent for organ donation. He saved many lives even in his death”, said Srinivas, Nagaraj’s elder brother.

“As of yesterday morning, Nagaraj was not responding to the treatment. We declared him brain dead and informed family members about the organ donation, and they gave their consent for it.
