Man attempts suicide over wife’s alleged illegal relationship with corporator

BALLARI: A man attempted suicide after accusing a corporator of having an illicit relationship with his wife and even threatening him. He is currently undergoing treatment at VIMS and an FIR has been registered against the corporator for a non-cognisable offence.

Ahmed Hussain, who is close to corporator Asif Basha, has questioned in his complaint with the Cowl Bazaar police whether the latter had an illicit relationship with his wife and said that when he questioned the corporator, he was threatened. He claimed that he attempted suicide by consuming phenyl after coming to know about the illegal affair.

The police have filed an FIR against Asif Basha under IPC Sections 504 and 506 and submitted a report to the jurisdictional court. The FIR mentions that Ahmed Hussain is a close friend of Asif Basha and used to look after all the affairs of the corporator. Basha would also visit Hussain’s house which was when he developed intimacy with Hussain’s wife.

Superintendent of Police Ranjit Kumar Bandaru said the Ahmed Hussain attempted suicide three days ago. “He was admitted to VIMS and one of his relative lodged a complaint at Cowl Bazaar police station making allegations against corporator Asif Basha for threat to life. A non-cognisable report was registered and a report submitted to the court. The complaint mentions that the corporator had an illegal affair with Hussain’s wife”.
