BENGALURU: A man attempted suicide in the High Court today. Srinivas Chinnam (54), hailing from Mysuru, attempted suicide by slitting his throat with a knife inside Court Hall-1, where the Chief Justice’s bench is located.
The police immediately rushed him to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital. He was immediately shifted to the operation theatre as he required nine stitches. His condition is now said to be stable and he has been moved to the ICU. The police are now investigating Srinivas’ background and the motive for his suicide attempt.
Srinivas Chinnam (54) appeared before the Chief Justice after the hearing and spoke about his case. He gave a petition to the court staff and then slit his throat with a surgical knife.
Srinivas had filed a writ petition (22057/2021) after an FIR he had registered in Mysuru had been quashed by a single-judge bench. He had come to the court along with his wife and it is suspected that he may have planned his suicide beforehand.
Srinivas had undergone heart surgery twice earlier to fix stents, according to doctors. He is a resident of Vijayanagar 2nd Stage in Mysuru and had lodged a complaint that he was duped of Rs 93 lakh by some Hyderabad-based people who had promised partnership in an apartment project. He had also alleged that three people had entered his house and threatened him of life. However, the FIR had been struck down.
