CHITRADURGA: A man brutally attacked his estranged wife with a sickle at the Challakere bus stand when she was heading to attend a court hearing in their divorce case on Wednesday. The woman sustained serious injuries in the head and arms and was shifted to a government hospital in Chitradurga.

Asha (26) of Heggere village and Kumaraswamy of Channammanagathihalli village had got married three years ago. However, over the last one year, he began to doubt her fidelity and would constantly pick quarrels. Fed up of this, Asha had approached a court for divorce.

The man was thrashed by locals and handed over to the police.

On Wednesday, expecting a final verdict, Asha had come to Challakere from Bengaluru when she was attacked by Kumaraswamy. Even as she lay in a pool of blood, he continued to attack her before he was caught by locals and thrashed and handed over to the police. The badly injured woman was shifted to the government hospital in Chitradurga. The Challakere police have registered a case.
