MADIKERI: The Madikeri police have arrested Syed (24) on charges of attempting to sexually assault a 74-year-old woman after barging into her house. The incident occurred on September 22 and a complaint was registered at the Madikeri police station on November 13.

Syed is a resident of Kadagadalu and was working at the mortuary of the district hospital. He recently quit his job. The police have seized his mobile phone as part of the investigation.

Syed (24) was arrested for attempting to sexually assault an aged woman.

The woman claimed that on the night of September 23, Syed came to her and knocked on the door. When she opened it, he forcefully entered the house and attempted to sexually assault her. When she raised an alarm, he ran out of the house before other locals gathered there.

A case was been registered under IPC Section 446 (house break-in by night) and IPC Section 354 (sexual assault on a woman). Syed was produced before a court which remanded him to judicial custody.

According to Madikeri DySP Gajendra Prasad, a Hindu organisation filed a complaint against Syed, alleging that he had a strange habit of taking naked pictures of women’s bodies while working in the mortuary. He was also accused of misbehaving with the district hospital’s nurses in the mortuary.
