Madiga community youth attacked, penalised for entering Golla community street in Tarikere village

CHIKKAMAGALUR: A youth belonging to the Madiga community was allegedly assaulted and penalised for entering a village in Tarikere taluk, two days ago. Following the incident, Dalit activists staged a protest at the village on Tuesday.

Dalit activsts took out a march in the village on Tuesday.

Maruthi, who works as an excavator operator, had entered the Gollarahatti in Geramaradi village on work. However, He was allegedly assaulted and the villagers even took away Rs 2,200 which was on his person, towards ‘penalty’ for entering the village. They even allegedly slit his hand, following which he has been hospitalised.

The Dalit activists also staged a sit-in protest in the village and raised slogans against discrimination.

On Tuesday, Dalit activists staged a protest in the village and demanded that all those responsible should be booked under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. The Tarikere police had tightened security in the village in view of the incident.
