Lokayukta seeks report on water contamination deaths in Chitradurga

Water contamination at Kavadigarahatti in Chitradurga had led to five deaths a few days ago.

CHITRADURGA: The Lokayukta has taken suo motu cognisance of the five deaths caused due to water contamination at Kavadigarahatti in Chitradurga and sought a report from the local authorities.

Lokayukta Justice B S Patil noted that the incident is distressing and directed the urban development secretary, municipal administration director, Chitradurga deputy commissioner, the district health officer, the Chitradurga city municipal council commissioner, assistant executive engineer and the health inspector to file a detailed report by August 24.

Medical camps were conducted in schools following the water contamination.

Meanwhile, the test report on the stool samples conducted at the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute has revealed the presence of a cholera-type bacteria. The district surveillance centre report on August 3 too had indicated a vibrio cholera-type bacteria and said that the water is not fit for drinking purposes.
