Leopard attacks 8-year-old boy on pilgrimage to MM Hills

Police and forest personnel chased away the leopard after firing shots from an air gun.

CHAMARAJANAGAR: A leopard attacked an eight-year-old boy hailing from Buvalli village in Channapatna taluk, while he was on a pilgrimage to Male Mahadeshwara Hills. The incident occurred around 11 am on Tuesday.

The boy Shreyas, was part of a group of pilgrims walking to the hill shrine, a common practice during the Mahashivaratri festival. The leopard attacked Shreyas while he was walking through a forested area.

The injured boy was rushed to the Male Mahadeshwara Hills Primary Health Centre. Forest officials and police personnel reached the scene and chased away the leopard using an air gun.

The Forest department has advised pilgrims to use the main road instead of the forest path to avoid such incidents. The authorities are keeping a close watch on the leopard and plan to capture it and release it elsewhere if possible.
Locals are demanding better deployment of forest personnel to prevent such incidents.

Meanwhile, a tiger was spotted on a farm at Gopalapura village in Gundlupet taluk. The tiger was captured on CCTV camera and can be seen entering a cowshed and attempting to drag a calf.

The tiger was chased away by farmers who were present at the scene. The village is located near the Bandipur forest and the tiger may have entered the area from the forest. The incident has raised concerns among locals, who are worried about their safety and the safety of their livestock.
